Join Warren Nelson and members of the Blue Canvas Orchestra in a concert of original songs with stories from his 23 years as host, MC and performer at the tent. Warren founded the Big Top in 1986 with his group the Lost Nation String Band standing at the center of the shows. He has written over 400 songs in his 56- year career and has created or co-created 18 history musicals including Riding the Wind which he says is “The show that bought the tent.”

“I am delighted to return to the canvas tent show which was a dream of mine since I was a young man. These musicians have been friends of mine from the beginning and are all exceptional performers. This show will include songs from all the years I have been writing and playing.” Nelson’s songs range from folk to bluegrass to swing to whatever.

After beginning with folk groups in the mid-1960s, Nelson traveled the country with his show group the Tenth Story Window in the early 1970s including a month’s performance at the International Hotel in Las Vegas warming up for Ike and Tina Turner. “Those were the years where I learned to be a showman.”

Nelson’s credits include being voted Wisconsin’s Best Folk Musician by readers of Wisconsin Trails Magazine, awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Humane Letters from UW-Superior, Minnesotan of the Year by the Minnesota Pioneers and a history award given to the Big Top by the Wisconsin Historical Society.

“I’m looking forward to seeing many of you who have been coming to the Big Top for years as well as those of you who have never heard us play before.”
